Adoption: I share my story because we reject what we fear and we fear what we don’t know.

“If you’re struggling to have children and see this picture, you’re likely to think ‘she’s one of those who has it easy.’ Well I’m here to tell you that this photo may look like a fairytale but the journey to get here was certainly not. 

The first 7 years of my marriage was filled with heartache and longing for children. The last 7 years saw us adding to our family through adoption and parenting these 2 children God has blessed us with. I don’t talk about it regularly not because I’m hiding the fact but because adoption is just the way in which they arrived in my family and not their primary identity. 

Just as no one goes around saying this is my C-sect son or VBAC daughter, I don’t go around referring to them as my adopted children because they are simply my children and will forever be 100% accepted and loved as our own from the moment they arrived in my arms.

November is #adoptionawarenessmonth. Adoption is not as common and much less talked about here in Singapore. I share my story because we reject what we fear and we fear what we don’t know.
